Kingdoms, Culture, and Legends
The dutiful scribes and historians of Kria have countless tales to tell. What secrets reside in these pages?
Coldark
One of the longest and often coldest nights of the year, Coldark is a night of penance and quiet memorial observance, if not atonement, across much of the civilized humanoid populations of Kria. On this night, many make sacrifices or offerings to the gods in hopes that the forthcoming seasons will be better, kinder, and richer than the last.
Some take some time for solitary reflection. Others engage in small gatherings with loved ones and even go so far as to make resolute vows publicly among their friends and families. Kindness and forgiveness are more easily offered and found during and around Coldark, especially in the less hospitable biomes.
Although it is a reflective and sometimes even grim day, it also provides a much-welcomed quiet break between two of the largest events of the year: the Festival of Gifts (similar to our Christmas) and the Timeturn (New Year’s).
Fatewalker
Fatewalkers are extraplanar beings who gather knowledge by traveling through time and space, walking the paths of what was and what could be. They can see the flow of time and rapidly visualize moments from the past and future. They can also move through the stream of time at will to visit particular moments. They claim to be seekers of knowledge, although it's not clear what exactly they do with the knowledge they gain. Despite the seeming infinity of choices made throughout time, Fatewalkers reportedly (according to Destinaire) perceive time as “ordered”.
A Fatewalker stands as tall as a human but moves with a strobing grace and fluidity that seem almost out of sync with the world around it. It has ethereal, starlit eyes that gaze into infinity and a calm demeanor that suggests a deep understanding of the ebbs and flows of destiny. They have command over their appearance and will use it when needed to make themselves less conspicuous.
Chaosborn are the arch-enemies of Fatewalkers. Whereas the Fatewalkers seem to study—even revere—the order of time, the Chaosborn seek to disrupt and alter timelines to create new or unexpected outcomes. The party first encountered both races shortly after exploring Redbeard's Outpost.
